Resolution APPROVED!

On Thursday, June 25 the Santa Clara Tribal Council approved a resolution proposed by the Department of Youth and Learning to transition the Santa Clara Day School from BIE-operated to Tribally Controlled Grant status. The decision was made after several months of community discussion, synthesizing a community vision for education, and then matching that vision with the best option. Thank you to the community members who took time to share their vision for education, as well as the school staff for opening their school doors and openly discussing their visions and concerns moving forward.

There are many questions in the community moving forward, and we want to answer as many of them as possible. Please visit our Tribally Controlled Grant FAQ for some answers to some general questions we've heard throughout the community. We will be holding community events and meetings to be available to explain what this process over the next year will entail, and those dates and times will be released soon. Some important items to know:

• The Tribal Council Resolution will be submitted to the Bureau of Indian Education along with the P.L. 100-297 Tribally Controlled Grant Application.
  
  
• Upon approval, the school will officially transition July 1, 2016.
  
  
• The Kha-p'o Education Initiative is working with Dr. Gregory Cajete, Director of Native American studies at the University of New Mexico, to develop a Meta-Curriculum from August 5-7, 2015.
