Dear Kha'p'o Community School Parents and Families,
Last week, the school board approved to reopen Kha'p'o Community School (KCS) for students on August 24, 2020 virtually in a distance learning format. We will come forward with additional details later this week and next week on what this virtual model and scheduling will mean for KCS students, parents, and staff. We plan on providing expanded details through the school's website for how the reopening will occur; scheduling for the students across the grades, Chromebook availability for each KCS student to use at home, supporting households in Google Classroom, and school support across different areas for students. Thank you for your patience on this update as we have been working as an administrative team and board to plan for safe opening conditions in an ever changing environment due to COVID-19. We also appreciate the support and understanding extended by many of you as we undergo these changes to instruction and scheduling this school year. I can be emailed questions at [email protected] or receive calls at 505-927-0063. Please stay safe, Liz Bahe, Executive Director and the KCS Administrative Team

We were made aware last week KCS student households had not yet received their Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits from the state's Human Services Department. The benefits are issued from the state's Human Services Department (HSD) and not a direct program of KCS, All benefits process through HSD for P-EBT and not through KCS. Last week we inquired with the state's programs to find out why the benefits were not yet issued to KCS student households. We were informed that the benefits were going to come forward at that time. A new update this week, stated that benefits were not being issued as they did not have the listing of KCS enrolled students from the 2019-2020 school. As our BIE database is separate from the state's public education system it was not done automatically as with other schools. Good News! - We worked with the state's departments to resolve this for KCS student households. We were informed today that the state has received KCS student data and they will process to issue P-EBT benefits. They anticipate benefits will process later in the month of July 2020 or early August 2020. KCS will continue to prepare and deliver breakfast and lunch meals during the week. A donation from Shamrock also had food items delivered through the food program for kids today as well. We currently serve 227 students through the food program with over a 1000 meals a week for children in the Pueblo. Archives
