BIE Director Visits Santa Clara1/26/2015 Bureau of Indian Education Director Dr. Charles "Monty" Roessel visited the Santa Clara Pueblo today for a meeting with Governor Michael Chavarria, Tribal Council Members, and the Planning Team. The group met at the Puye Cliffs and discussed the organizational, financial, and capacity challenges in potentially granting the Santa Clara Day School.
Dr. Roessel showed his support for the Tribal Council and the intentional process the Planning Team was taking in having conversations with the community. He also shared his plans and goals as Director of the BIE, and answered many questions from the Governor and Planning Team. The Planning Team is meeting with Dr. Roessel again on Wednesday at the BIE offices in Washington D.C.

Notice of Intent1/12/2015 Today we submitted a Notice of Intent (which can be found here) to open a charter school in the Espanola Public Schools District. This is not a binding document, nor a guarantee that a charter school will be open. In short, the letter ensures that if the community conversations show the Tribal Council and planning team that a charter school is the best choice for education options in the pueblo, we are able to take the next step to make it a reality. If not, the Tribal Council and planning team have no obligations; the Notice expires if an official application is not submitted to the state in June 2015 with no penalty. Submitting the letter gives the Tribal Council and planning team options, where as refraining from a submission would limit us moving forward.
If you have any questions about the submission, please let us know in the CONTACT US page. Archives
