We want to give a special thanks to the Santa Clara Day School staff. They have been working hard to create a strong learning environment for the students of Santa Clara during a time of instability. We've had the opportunity to sit down with many of the staff, and their focus remains with the students at the school. We are excited to continue working with them to build on the successes they have had.  

For those of you not able to make the Education Symposium on October 12, 2015, we have posted the notes and a basic rundown of the Meta-Curriculum on our Grant Process page.  Take a look, and if you want to add something please feel to reach out to us or comment in the forum. 

The P.L. 100-297 Grant Application has been submitted, and now the planning team is working to submit several documents, including policies and procedures, bylaws, etc. During this time, the Tribal Council will also be appointing the first school board, or "Founding Board", that will work during the transition year to approve policies and procedures, assist in curriculum development, and hire the school principal for SY2016-2017. The Advising Committee will be submitting recommendations, and the positions will also be posted publicly. We will update the website when they are officially posted. The Tribal Council is currently waiting on the Advising Committee's recommendations and for the postings to be made before they make their decisions.

Thank you to all the community members and parents who attended the Santa Clara Pueblo Education and Language Symposium on Monday!  We had a great line up of presenters, a delicious lunch, and some deep discussions regarding the future of education in the pueblo.  We will be putting together a comprehensive summary of the day this week, and will post that here on our website.

Speaking of the website, we hope you enjoy the new layout. We moved some items around and tried to make information more accessible. We are still working on connecting some old links and adding documents, so let us know if something isn't working for you!

In other news, our Advising Committee meeting held on Oct. 6, 2015 provided great conversation and focus. School board members, school staff, and parents were in attendance and provide feedback and input on the process. We primarily discussed the final plans for the symposium, but also touched on some updates from the Grant Application process. Meeting minutes will be posted this week. Our next meeting will be November 3, 2015 at 6:00 PM in the Department of Youth and Learning offices.

The P.L.100-297 Grant Application was submitted at the end of September. The Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) now has until January 26, 2016 to approve the application. During this 120 day waiting period, the planning team will be working with the BIE to ensure all application requirements were met. This means that the planning team will be focusing on submitting policies and procedures over the next few weeks.
