Dear KCS Community,
We wanted to inform you that on Monday, August 2, the KCS Board voted to start the 2021-2022 school year in remote status for Quarter 1 (August 23 - October 21, 2021), both because of the Pueblo's existing Public Health Order and also as a result of the input we received from the KCS community surveys and public participation during our meeting. KCS will work with the Pueblo’s Emergency Operations Center and other stakeholders to assess the pandemic conditions on a biweekly basis during Quarter 1 (August 23 - October 21, 2021) to determine if and when we can enter into a hybrid learning mode at any point. KCS will be sending out information on the Return to School Handbook that outlines planning and procedures we will be implementing for fall 2021 as our response to COVID-19. The handbook outlines how we will operate in distance learning, hybrid, and onsite modes for this school year. The school website (www.khapoeducation.org) has an area titled "Reopening 2021-2022" that provides a copy of the school year calendar, highlights on the plan, important dates, and how we will notify parents/guardians of notices and updates. Please inform us if you have any changes to your mailing address, phone numbers, and emails so we can update. Our school will have 190 day KCS staff and teachers returning on August 16, 2021 to provide support and services to KCS students to implement online instruction across the grades. Teachers will provide the class schedule for your student during the week of August 16th. Our KCS teachers for this upcoming school year are:
Julie Lucero has joined KCS as the new Director of Instruction, a role that will serve as the instructional leader similar to a principal role for students and teachers. Please join us in welcoming her to KCS when we start the school year. She will be joining teachers in our Google Classroom environments when classes begin. Teamwork and safety at KCS is what we have been focused on and we will continue with during SY 2021-2022. We navigated across last year with students, families, and staff with challenges in place but a full school year accomplished. This year will have us supporting students in academic areas and social-emotional development. We have the previous year’s experiences to guide us going into this year. It is our hope that this year will have us see students in person when the conditions allow. I can be reached at [email protected] or by phone at 505-927-0063 for any questions. Instructional questions can be directed to Julie Lucero, Director of Instruction at [email protected] or by phone at 505-357-1061. Our main school number 505-753-4406 will also direct you to our front desk for school questions and to other staff for questions you have. Sincerely, Elizabeth Bahe, M.Ed Executive Director
