Dear KCS Families,
We will be cancelling Google Classroom for grades K-6th tomorrow, Tuesday, 9/22/2020 and apologize for the timing of this notification. We will also be not providing food/meals for students, for the remainder of this week.
The school will be undergoing a cleaning process that entails disinfecting all buildings, this will mean staff cannot report onsite to KCS tomorrow through Friday. Please allow us time to adjust tomorrow. As this is a required school day closure, attendance is not being taken. We plan on holding K-6th Google Classrooms beginning Wednesday again.
The K-6th teachers will be informing you this evening and may outline additional one-on-one sessions with students or instructions on additional resources to review for tomorrow.
We will also not be serving food for students this week due to staff being offsite. We will return on Monday, September 28, 2020 to prepare and deliver food for students.
Again we apologize, our intent is to ensure we have this disinfecting process conducted. We will update KCS families on any changes or notices. Thank you for your patience.
KCS Administrative Team
KCS education during COVID has faced a series of challenges and successes. As KCS staff, we set forth from March 16, 2020 to navigate these challenges with our best committed effort to ensure instruction, food service, and school resources were in place for KCS students.
We were successful in implementing a weekly food program that delivered breakfast and lunch to 260 students daily, Monday through Friday. The program was successful because of the level of commitment provided through the shared leadership and teamwork of KCS staff. We have planned, implemented, and assessed each week we have been in COVID response mode for sudden changes and impact that came with this pandemic.
We will apply that same commitment to starting the school year for students on August 24, 2020. We feel an incredible responsibility for our students' learning and well-being and decisions we implement are centered in that responsibility. As we move into this year, we are still recruiting for two upper grade level teacher positions, 4th grade and 5th grade. Please know this does not mean our 4th and 5th grade students will be without teachers. Our goal is to ensure that each KCS student has a teacher assigned to teach them across each grade. We are meeting that goal with the commitment of our awesome teachers.
The approach we will take for the first quarter as we are in distant learning/virtual mode will have us combining the upper grades under two KCS teachers with an additional support teacher assigned. Our lower grades will each have a single teacher for each grade. The teachers have started contacting student households to inform you that they are your child's teacher and will further explain the scheduling and arrangements for this.
Our teachers across the grades as we start the first nine-weeks are:
We will continue recruiting for individual teachers going forward with the best intentions of finding quality committed educators who will implement the school's mission and values.
Thank you for your continuing support of KCS staff as we move into fall 2020. We are looking forward to welcoming back students next week!
